Theater on the Hyphen

Juliana Frey-Méndez is an Iowa-born Cuban American who creates stories to ignite the imagination.

She has dedicated her career to immersive new work projects, resurrecting and creating stories in locations ranging from historic homes to naval training camps. After graduating from Cornell University with a BA in Theater for Social Change, she moved to New York City to direct the musicals and works of first-time Latine playwrights. Juliana relishes bringing discordant ideas, forgotten histories, and forms together to wrestle, negotiate, and engage with each other. She received her MFA in Theater Directing from the University of California, San Diego where, in addition to directing co-located theater pieces, she performed and created multi-media projects, directed a radio play, and hosted a symposium on playwright María Irene Fornés.

Juliana is a proud member of The Latinx Theatre Commons and the SDC.
